COMING UP: December 10, 2020: TML Economic Development Conference - Virtual This year the Texas Municipal League is going virtual with its annual economic development conference. COVID has likely had an impact on every community in Texas and this year's conference focuses on how to turn crisis into opportunities for revitalization, retooling and recovery. Economic Development attorney Chris Nichols will present again on Chapter 380 Agreements and whether they continue to be the "Right Stuff" for cities and their economic development programs for 2021 and beyond. December 17, 2020: Newly Elected Officials Virtual Workshop - Houston-Galveston Area Council Every year, local governments across the state hold elections and their communities select new city leaders to serve on their governing boards and councils. Those newly elected officials are required to attend training on certain matters affecting their offices. At the upcoming H-GAC Newly Elected Officials Workshop, Chris Nichols will deliver important certified training on the Open Meetings Act to attendees. PAST APPEARANCES: November 7, 2019: TML Economic Development Conference - Hyatt Lost Pines / Bastrop This fall, the Texas Municipal League is back with its economic development conference. Economic Development attorney Chris Nichols will present again on Chapter 380 Agreements and whether they continue to be the "Right Stuff" for municipalities and their economic development tool box. August 22, 2019: TMCCP Legislative Update - San Marcos After the recent close of the 86th Texas Legislature, there are a number of bills that have or will soon take effect. Municipal and Economic Development attorney Chris Nichols and consulting city planner Craig Farmer, FAICP, will speak at the upcoming Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program on those bills pertaining to and impacting municipalities and their planning and zoning practices. August 15-16, 2019: TML Newly Elected City Officials' Orientation - San Antonio During this program for newly elected city government officials, Mr. Nichols reviewed municipal funding sources and shared economic development ideas and past experiences with local government officials from around the state. This program was hosted by the Texas Municipal League (TML) and the Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and Commissioners (TAMCC). June 7, 2019: City Hall Essentials Municipal Law Seminar at Texas Tech University School of Law - Lubbock At this upcoming City Hall Essentials seminar, Chris Nichols will deliver a basic overview of current sign law and discuss recent key cases that are helping shape the way local governments regulate signage in their communities. May 16, 2019: TML 2019 Small Town Conference - Granbury During his session on economic development for small towns, Chris Nichols will provide attendees an overview of the basic legal requirements relating to the economic development tools that are available to Texas cities, and how those tools may be used to strengthen your local economy.
